Mailchimp is the name most people think of when they hear "email marketing," and for good reason.

With over two decades in the space, it offers one of the most mature feature sets available: drag-and-drop email design, pre-built automation workflows, A/B testing, landing pages, social media posting, and even basic CRM functionality.

For creators who are just getting started with email and want a platform that can do a little bit of everything, Mailchimp's breadth is appealing. The platform's template library and visual email builder are among the best in the industry.

You can create polished, branded emails without touching any code, and the content optimizer provides AI-powered suggestions to improve engagement.

Mailchimp also integrates with nearly every tool in the creator ecosystem, from Shopify and WordPress to Canva and Zapier, making it a reliable hub for marketing workflows. That said, Mailchimp's pricing has become a point of friction.

The free tier is now limited to 500 contacts, and costs escalate quickly as your list grows. The platform also charges for unsubscribed and inactive contacts unless you manually clean your list, which feels punitive.

For creators specifically, Mailchimp's generalist approach means it lacks the creator-specific features (like paid subscriptions, referral programs, and creator networks) that newer competitors provide out of the box.

Our take

Mailchimp is a solid generalist email tool, but it is no longer the best choice for creators. Its pricing model punishes list growth, and it lacks the creator-focused features that platforms like ConvertKit and Beehiiv offer natively. If you are already on Mailchimp and it works, fine, but new creators should look at purpose-built alternatives first.
